New England
To celebrate their 10th anniversary, Jason and
Stephanie traveled to Boston, site of the 2008 National
Down Syndrome Congress annual convention, and
toured New England for ten days (without the kids).
We started in Boston on the Fourth of July,
where we walked the Freedom Trail. To the
right, minutemen fire their weopons shortly
after the reading of the Declaration of
Independence. Above, Stephanie stands in
front of Paul Revere's house. That night we
watched the fireworks on a cruise around
the harbor on the Spirit of Boston (below).
The next day we
went to New
Hampshire,
where we spent
the day on the
beach with
Stephanie's
cousin, Rebecca,
and sister, Kim,
and their
families. Then it
was on to Kim's
house in
Western
Connecticut.
On Monday, the 7th, we took a trip down
into Manhattan, where we ate at Tavern on
the Green in Central Park (above right)
and walked by the Manhattan Temple
(left) on our way to the Metropolitan Opera
(right), where we watched the American
Ballet Theatre perform "Giselle."
On
Tuesday
morning,
we toured
the Statue
of Liberty
On the 9th,
we traveled
along the
Southern
coast of
Connecticut,
stopping to
see Yale
University
in New
Haven and
the
mansions
in Newport,
RI, before
reaching
our hotel in
New Castle,
NH.
We spent a couple nights in New Castle, traveling up into Maine
and eating some lobster, then we went back to Boston, where we
thoroughly enjoyed this year's NDSC convention (so much so that
we took no pictures), we went back to see the McFaddens one
more time (and spent Friday night with them), and we stopped at
the Boston Temple before heading for home.
