On July 1, 2006 the Farrington Family traveled to Oceanside,
California, where we met the Cory and Scriber families for a
one-week vacation on the beach.
On Sunday we attended
church near the Newport
Beach Temple, and
afterward visited the
temple grounds.
Most of the week was spent on the
beach, enjoying the fun and beauty of
Southern California. Of course, we
celebrated Independence Day on the
beach as well, watching the fireworks
over the Oceanside Pier.
Later in the week, we visited the San
Diego Zoo. Some of the highlights of
our zoo visit included seeing the giant
pandas, the hippos, and the polar
bears, one of which put on quite a
show for us.
On Friday we took a short cruise around San Diego Bay, where
we got to see a group of sea lions and four aircraft carriers.
The carrier Midway is permanently docked in the bay and
serves as a museum, but we also got to see three active,
nuclear-powered supercarriers: the USS Nimitz, the USS John
C. Stennis, and the USS Ronald Reagan, which had just
returned from its maiden voyage.
After saying goodbye to
the Corys and Scribers on
Saturday morning, the
Farrington Family spent
our last day in Southern
California at Legoland. To
the right are just a few of
the amazing scale models,
built entirely of legos, that
can be seen all over the
park.
Summer Vacation 2006
While in San Diego, we also visited
one of the most beautiful buildings
anywhere, the San Diego Temple.
